Frequently asked questions
1. Why don’t you provide class videos for home practice?
At Chella Natyalaya, we believe in nurturing active learning rather than passive watching. Instead of videos, we provide Practice Trackers. These help students recall what was taught in class, reflect on it at home, and practice independently. This method strengthens self-discipline, memory power, and focus, which are essential values in Bharatanatyam training.
2. Why are two batches combined in a single class?
Combining levels has proven to be beneficial for both groups of students:
Lower level students: They gain early exposure to what lies ahead, which creates motivation and a clear goal to work towards.
Higher level students: They stay connected to their foundation, revisiting and refining the basics while progressing in advanced lessons.
This approach builds a sense of continuity, aspiration, and collective learning in every class.
3. Why was the performance date preponed by a week?
We sometimes make small adjustments in the schedule to ensure that every child gets the chance to perform. In this instance, a parent’s travel plans coincided with the original date, so we advanced the performance by one week. The final date was also confirmed based on hall availability, ensuring the smooth flow of the overall academic schedule.
4. What is the dress code for classes?
Students are expected to wear comfortable dance attire (leggings/salwar with kurta or top) and tie their hair neatly. This ensures ease of movement and helps maintain discipline and focus in class. For performances, specific costumes will be provided or guided by the school.
5. Can parents observe the classes?
To encourage children to concentrate and build independence, regular classes are not open for observation. However, parents are warmly invited to watch Open House classes and performances, where children showcase their learning progress.
6. What happens if my child misses a class?
Consistency is very important in Bharatanatyam. If a child misses a class, the Practice Tracker helps them catch up with the work covered. Teachers will also guide them briefly in the next class to ensure they are not left behind.
7. How are the levels structured?
Chella Natyalaya follows a step-by-step curriculum with clear milestones:
Foundation → Beginners Level 1 → Beginners Level 2 → Intermediate Level 1 & 2 → Advanced → Pre-Arangetram → Arangetram.
Each level ends with recognition, such as Fjäril and Dubbel-Trumma pins, which symbolize progress and inspire students to aim higher.
